THE grand opening.... finally!
Three and a half years ago Pangea Bar & Restaurant, along with its sister location Stave & Hoop, opened in downtown Missoula. What will always be a part of our story, both locations were slated to open on March 20th, 2020. This, of course, did not happen due to the pandemic. Pangea like many businesses in the world had to sit on the sidelines until better times. We were allowed to open in May of that year, but better times were farther away than any one thought. Pangea and Stave & Hoop opened with little fanfare in one of the most difficult and confusing times in the business world. These were difficult times not just in the food & beverage industry, but in all sectors. In the restaurant industry everyone had to get creative to survive. An uphill battle especially in uncertain times especially when no one knows who you are!
Well, times DID get better. With perseverance and determination, the Pangea Restaurant Group kept afloat. Massive sacrifices were made by the ownership team. Battles were won, mistakes were made and lessons were learned. Three plus years and a lifetime of experience later we knew it was time to move forward. Take the steps that were always part of the plan, they just were delayed a little.
As a team of born and raised Montanans and Missoulians, it was always our dream to bring something new and innovative to Missoula. To raise the bar in Missoula and provide an exceptional experience to everyone. Locals and visitors alike. So many things were done right and so many things were not. The changing landscape of the Missoula restaurant scene has been difficult to navigate for everyone. Recently it has changed considerably with some institutions announcing their last days. We truly believed it was time to move the ship forward, to represent Missoula, be what Missoula deserves for the next 20 years. So at Pangea it is time for a reset, it is time to move on from the past AND finally get in that Grand Opening we never were able to have!
We always knew we had a good team. This team consisted of Scott Billadeau, Chad Morgan and Griz Hall of Famer Skyla Sisco. Under their leadership they grew the Liquid Planet brand in Missoula and beyond. In 2019 Missoula local Kyle Riggs joined the team bringing a little flair as one of the only Advanced Level 3 Sommeliers in Wine and Spirits in Montana. The Pangea Restaurant group was born. But how do you take a good team and make them an amazing team? You go on a search to find the best and we did. Enter Chef Justin Ferguson. Western Montana has not really seen the likes of this type of culinary talent. Chef Ferguson has a culinary resume worth drooling over. He’s started successful restaurants in Chicago, New York and Louisiana, everything from Michelin restaurants to barbeque to Mexican. He understands the food industry inside and out with special focus on hospitality and customer service all of which will make Pangea a one of a kind culinary experience.
To showcase our completely new menu and new level of service. Pangea will be having its first actual Grand Opening Thursday Nov. 9th . The public is encouraged to come dine and check out the new menu, imbibe on some free champagne, enter a raffle for a huge wine gift basket, and enjoy a whole new experience in Missoula! Even if you’ve been to Pangea before we can’t wait to show everyone what we always knew we could be! Some of your favorites may be gone, but rest assured, your new favorite is waiting for you. We still will have the same amazing cocktails and wine but promise a whole new level of culinary delight!
Pangea will be discontinuing lunch Nov. 5th so we can focus on our new direction with staff training Nov. 5th thru Nov. 8th. We will open daily at 4pm beginning Nov. 9th. But are excited to announce the return of Sunday Brunch with a whole new look starting November 19th at 10am. Reservations are recommended but not required. We always keep tables for walk-ins. The future is bright and we are excited to bring even more to Missoula in early 2024. Chef Justin’s arrival will usher in a whole new era for the Pangea Restaurant Group. Featuring a full catering division providing both food and alcohol. Plus, a whole new concept we call Elote Modern Mexican at Southgate Mall launching in early 2024.
